we are buying a cabin in the mountains in east tn, there is thousands of these ladybugs on the floor some dead and some alive. in the last few days they are crawling up out of the ground around the house. is there a treatment for these and can i personally purchase the stuff the treat them, i talked to a exterminator when he came out to do termite inspection on cabin and he said he could treat them but the cost was a little high to me 600.00 dollars. is this reasonable or can i do it myself and get the same results. any help will be appreciated. Thank You.

There most definitely is a treatment you can do. First, read through our LADYBUG CONTROL ARTICLE. This will help to explain the details of the problem the cabin now has and how you can best deal with the infestation. In fact, we have a great video that goes over most everything you should do and not coincidentally, the video was filmed on location at a cabin just south of TN! You'll find it in the article; it's the second video down.

As you'll learn, the treatments you'll need to do will involve liquid, dusts and aerosol products. And you'll need to treat this spring and then again next fall if you want to improve the situation for next years winter. If you follow the treatment recommendations, you no doubt will find that next winter the population will be a lot less and by the end of the second year, it should be very much under control. Here are some comments made by our happy customers after dealing with problems like you've discovered and as you can tell by their results, this is something the average home owner can most definitely tackle on their own if they're willing to put in a little work:

Our LADYBUG LIGHT TRAP would be ideally suited for an RV. You could plug it in and turn it on every fall and spring whether you were using the RV or not. The trap would effectively collect any ladybugs which might appear and quickly round them up and stop them from nesting. This would effectively decrease the amount of spraying needed inside the Recreational Vehicle. But if you wanted to control the problem it would be best to stop them from entering in the first place.

To do this you should treat the outside of the RV with CYPERMETHRIN. It's highly irritating to the ladybugs and they'll avoid surfaces where it's been applied. Simply spray down the outside top and sides every fall and spring and you should be able to keep them out. As explained in our LADYBUG CONTROL ARTICLE, this invasive pest will return year after year to the same structure seeking winter harborage. If they're a problem inside, be sure to use some PT-PHANTOM throughout. It's just about odorless and goes on dry making it ideally suited for inside applications without making a mess.

I think you mean Asian Ladybugs. Some people call them Ladybugs, Asian Ladybugs and even Asian Lady Beetles. If you mean the small, orange beetles which are just slightly larger than our native ladybugs, then we're talking about the same invasive pest.

I suggest you read our online article about ASIAN LADYBUG CONTROL which will provide several solutions depending on the kind of problem you have. Most people will need to spray inside their home right now and outside as the beetles emerge for spring. Getting them in both locations is important; if you get them good now there won't be as many coming back next fall.

I swear that I'm getting bites from ladybugs which are in my house but my husband thinks I'm crazy. Can you tell me if they bite and what I can do to get rid of them?

Ladybugs most certainly do bite! We've been told this from customers ever since we opened our doors almost 20 years ago. Though most people think of ladybugs as being a beneficial insect, the Asian Lady Bug can be a nuisance pest as described in our Asian Ladybug Control article. Once inside, you'll have to treat with the PHANTOM AEROSOL get their numbers down till the spring. At that point you should do a good liquid treatment with the Cypermethrin to get them as they leave the structure. This will cut down on the numbers that return the following fall. At that time you'll need to treat again to keep them from coming back inside where they'll want to hibernate and harass you all winter. Asian Ladybug bites will happen as you encounter them during this time so keeping them out in the fall is key. And in some cases it will take 1-2 years to completely be rid of them once your home is infested so hopefully you don't have that bad of an infestation just yet.
